Crunch Time For Young Packers

by Tom King

The Packers play their 3rd pre-season game Friday night at Lambeau and for the young guys fighting for a roster spot it will be much more than the Raiders who will be the opponent. It will be the handful of other guys who might have a shot at cracking the roster...it will be the expectations of the coaches...and the expectations of the quarterback. Because make no mistake...this is Aaron Rodgers team. He made some very interesting comments to reporters this week. Talking about the receiving corps he said knowing how to make adjustments and how he wants the routes run is a big part of making the team and getting playing time. He also said'there is the offense...and then there is the first team offense...with the insinuation being that if you cant play up to the level he expects...dont plan on being on the field. Cutdowns will start coming this weekend. Mike McCarthy also said they havent finalized special teams yet.

Despite muggy temps in the 80's today...high school football is here. Expect some cramping at Thom Field tonight as Wausau East will host Wisconsin Rapids. It's a Thursday game because Wausau West is also home for their opener Friday night vs Marshfield. I'll have the East/Rapids game tonight on Foxsports Radio AM1390 & FM 93.9 and also streaming on foxsportswausau.com...pre game at 630...kickoff at 7pm

Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)

No Reply-The Beatles (1965) a Lennon track from "Beatles 65" ..he wanted to sing the high harmony part but his voice was rough from overuse so Paul sand the harmony and John the lead.

No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature-Guess Who (1970) one of those bands that you sometimes forget about but for a number of years they were as big as anybody. Randy Bachman's guitar, a solid rhythm section and Burton Cummings fabulous voice...this was from the album 'American Woman"
