Cheer For Braun?

by Tom King

The new rightfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers homered in his first at-bat of the spring yesterday. Normally that wouldnt be a huge deal except this year the new rightfielder is Ryan Braun. Braun will be learning a new position as he returns from his long suspension for PED use last season. He was also hurt for much of last year with thumb and wrist problems. I'm willing to bet that the idea that Braun will not be as good a player without the PEDS will be less of an issue than whether or not he's healthy. I think he will return to being one of the top players in baseball and the question now will be whether or not Brewer fans will forgive him and move on. Like anything there will be those with zero tolerance and to those folks Braun is as good as dead. To others it will be the lying that will be the hardest thing to get past. In our society these days a major transgression can be forgiven if you seem genuinely apologetic and humble. If you admit your failure in public view and take your shaming. In many peoples view Braun hasnt done that. The Brewers are conducting a survey of season ticket holders to see what their opinions are and one of the questions is how they view Braun going forward. If the view continues to be negative will they consider trading their superstar? That option may be in the fan's hands.

It didnt work out for Racine native Caron Butler and the Bucks. They completed a buyout of his contract yesterday and he's expected to sign with a contender (possibly the Miami heat) by this weekend.
