Burnett Next In Line For Payday

by Tom King

The Green Bay Packers have been doing a good job of locking up some of their young players with long-term contracts and it appears that defensive back Morgan Burnett is the next in line. CBS Sports is reporting that Packers are trying to "hammer out" a deal with Burnett who was one of only 2 players in the league that was on the field for every defensive snap last year. He led Green bay in tackles with 123.

The Brewers scored early but couldnt hold it last night losing to Arizona 5-3. The team also made some roster moves as Ryan Braun went on the bereavement list to deal with a family medical problem. Khris Davis and Caleb Gindl have been called up from AAA Nashville. The Brewers also signed pitcher Aaron Laffey to a minor league deal.

The Woodchucks brought out the heavy lumber in 16-9 win over the Madison Mallards. Austin Diemer went 4-4  with 4 rbi's for the Chucks. The LaCrosse Loggers come to town tonight to begin a three game weekend series. you can hear the game on Foxsports AM1390 & FM 93.9 at 6:15

The Wausau Post 10 Legion Bulldogs had a tough night last night in Marshfield losing 16-6. Bulldog pitchers issued 14 walks in the loss. They return to action Saturday with a noon DH at Wausau West vs Marinette.

I want to take a moment to remember an old friend of mine who passed away last week. Ron Scheurell died in Plano Texas. He and I were part of a group of UWSP students who spent the fall of 1976 on a Semester Abroad in London. We called him "Ron Juan" for his efforts with the ladies. He was one of those guys who grabbed for all the gusto he could. We got a chance to re-connect not to long ago at a reunion of the group. I'm not quite ready for my friends to start passing on. I'll raise a glass to you my friend and remember when we thought the world was ours for the taking.

Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)

Magic-Bruce Springsteen (2007) the title track from his first album with the E-Street Band since "The Rising" back in 2002.

Magic-The Cars (1984) few bands evoke an era like this Boston based group does with the early 80's...this is a big hit from the Lp "Heartbeat City"
