Brewers Facing Offensive Crisis

by Tom King

Despite having the batting average leader in Jean Segura, the Milwaukee Brewers offense continues to struggle. There is no shame in getting shut down by Clayton Kershaw like they did last night. Kershaw is one of the two best pitchers in baseball. But the Brewers have struggled against all sorts of pitchers...good and bad...and unless they make a move in the next 25 games or so, it looks to be a lost summer at Miller Park. 14 of their next 19 games are at home and they face the Pirates, Twins, Phillies twice & Oakland. Then its on the road to Miami, Cincy & Houston. Corey Hart is expected back in the next couple of weeks but he can't be expected to contribute much right away. Segura, Gomez, Braun & Aoki continue to hit well, but Yuny B has come back down to earth and the team is getting virtually nothing out of their catchers. Alex Gonzalez is hitting .177 and the struggles of Rickie Weeks have been well documented. It seems that even when they get men on base, they cant come up with the timely hit. That stuff will even out over time and it just takes a few to drop in to become contagious and a winning streak will follow. Let's hope it happens soon.

Larry Drew has interviewed for the Bucks coaching job. Drew is currently coach at Atlanta but his contract expires this year and both sides are looking at options. The Hawks have interviewed Stan Van Gundy. The Bucks are reportedly interested in Van Gundy but have not interviewed him as of yet.

Congrats to the Madison College Wolfpack (featuring former Wausau West stand out Dylan Detert) as they are headed to the Junior College World Series in Enid Oklahoma later this week. Detert still has a year of Legion baseball eligibility and will play this summer with the Wausau Legion Bulldogs.

Songs Of The Day  (from my I-pod)

Love Of My Life-Gino Vanelli (1976) from an album called "The Gist Of The Gemini". Vanelli had a string of pretty good albums in the late 70s'

Love Of The Common People-Paul Young (1983) a remake of a song from the early 70's that flopped for Young when originally released. They tried again a year later and it became a hit. Pop reggae and could the band look anymore 80's? This is a video from the classic English show "Top Of The Pops"
