St. Jude Children's Research Hospital :: Meet the Patient of the Month for January 2014

The children of St. Jude are the reason we do our annual St. Jude Radiothons.  For instance, the St. Jude Patient of the Month for January, Andrew, is  back to being an active 8 year old.  Here's the overview of his story:



  • Family noticed strange pain and cramping in 2012
  • Tumor the size of an orange was found in pelvic area
  • Diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma
  • Referred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
  • Tumor found inoperable
  • Couldn't walk when he got to St. Jude
  • Chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant have shrunk the tumor
  • Andrew is now active at home and returns to St. Jude every few month for check-ups
  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude
  • St. Jude Children's research Hospital has the world's best survival rates for aggressive childhood canceers.  In 50 years the survival rates has grown from 20% to 80%.
