Was Anyone Really Surprised Over Jodie Foster's "Coming Out" Speech?

Jodie Foster was honored last night (1/13) at the 70th Annual Golden Globes, receiving the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement in film.  During her moving speech she addressed rumors that she is a lesbian and said, “I’m just going to put it out there, loud and proud, right? I am…single. I’m kidding.”

She added, seriously, “I came out a long, long time ago.” She added that did her coming out to friends a long time ago (though not in a public forum), acknowledged she had a female partner when she thanked Cydney Bernard, who she also called out as the co-parent of their children.

She's getting a lot of flack today for her "rambling" speech but I was moved watching it and didn't care that she rambled or used it as a sort of "confessional."  As for her coming out, good for her!  I didn't think it was a secret though.  Did you?
