Production has started on the Walt Disney Studios project, Maleficent, which will star Angelina Jolie. The movie will tell the story of the villain Maleficent from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty.

A still released by the studio shows Jolie in make-up created by Academy Award winner Rick Baker, which highlights the character’s yellow-green eyes, sharp cheekbones and two horns protruding from the top of her head.

Maleficent will be directed by Robert Stromberg, who was the production designer on Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. Jolie will be joined on screen by Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson and Juno Temple.

The movie is scheduled for release in 3D on March 14, 2014.
