Terry's Triple Play Keyword was one of those rare ones that could have two different answers. If you've been feverishly punching in the word "line", sorry. That's not the answer I'm looking for.
Copywriting has a lot of that multiple answer stuff going on too. There are multiple solutions to every Copy Request I receive. The obvious one comes up first. That's the one whose approach comes as no surprise to anyone, a decidedly "Meh" commercial. It's the second or third answer that tends to have the better solution. A take that hasn't been taken before, a strange turn of phrase, whatever it is, it's where the magic lies.
That's why the first draft exists, to get all of the lame ideas out of the way so the good one can make itself clear.
By the way, "the first draft" concept applies to a lot more than writing.
That second or third answer takes some time to get at. In today's "GOTTA HAVE IT NOW!" world, I fear that the lack of patience for the second or third answer is robbing us of a bit of magic, a bit of creativity, leading us to shortsighted solutions.
The bean counter sees that time spent looking for a second or third answer as frivolous. "Why bother? We already have an answer! Let's just go with it." he/she bellows, losing sight of the fact that a particular right answer isn't necessarily the best right answer.
May you have the time you need to get the right answer.
Your TTPK Hint for today is: "Your camera has one."
Your Blog Keyword for today is "line". It's good for 250 WDEZ Club Points until 1700 on 12/15/09.
Be Cool,
