The Green Bay Packers have said this week that they are open to bringing back Johnny Jolly if he has anything left in the tank. My question is why. The Packers have always carried this aura of doing things in classy way. They don't like boat-rockers and have usually cut ties with trouble-makers. Jolly hasnt played for over three years after being sent to prison for codiene possesion with intent to sell. It was his second arrest which happened while he was out on bail for the first possession charge so its not like he didnt have a couple of chances. He even flaunted his disdain for the law by being caught in an advertising poster for a party in which he was drinking which was illegal for him at the time. He was recently reinstated from an NFL suspension by Roger Goodell and is eligible to return to the Packers who still hold his rights. In fact the Packers are still paying him. He did accept a cut from 2 1/2 million to $700,000 a year. Does that grate on anyone besides me? Shouldnt you be able to void a contract if the player is sent to prison? The chances of Jolly being able to contribute on the field are not very good...but in my  mind that shouldnt be the primary concern. His antics off the field should preclude him getting another chance with the Packers...because I always thought that the Packers cared about that stuff more than other teams...and if thats true, here is the time to walk the walk.

The World BAseball Classic will finish up tonight as the Dominican Republic faces off with Puerto Rico in the title game. It should be a loud, raucous crowd in San Francisco with two rabid fan bases. MLB Network will carry the game.

Bucks coach Jim Boylan is not happy with his team. Despite a win on Sunday he says they are not playing well enought right now to even make the playoffs much less do well in them. They needed a 45 point 4th quarter to pull out Sundays game vs Orlando at the Bradley Center. It was the most points scored in a quarter in 8 years. They host Portland tonight. They also have two games vs Atlanta in the next week. The Hawks are one of the teams they are chasing to move out of the 8th spot in the playoffs and avoid facing Miami in the first round.

The lead vocalist of one of my favorite soul bands has passed away. Bobby Smith, who sang lead on many of the Spinners big hits was 76 . Smith was one of the original Spinners when they were founded in Detroit before moving to Philly and becoming a big part of the Philly Sound explosion of the mid-70's.
