Unless you're a hardcore baseball fan it seems that the World Baseball Classic that gets underway here today has not been the magnet that soem thought it wouldbecome. The early round games in Japan were playing to tiny crowds even though some of the best players in the world are involved. Team USA, which begins official play tomorrow night vs Mexico, features an All-Star lineup which includes Ryan Braun of the Brewers, and yet it seems that most fans would rather follow their own team in spring training...or prepare for their fantasy league draft. The Latin American crowds will eventually show up for the later round games. In the past WBC's it was a frenzied atmosphere when teams from the Domincan Republic or Puerto Rico played. You can catch most of the action on the MLB Network if youre interested...but it doesnt appear that many are. I think eventually we will see major leagues in Latin America. Asia and Europe and hopefully at some point, that can evolve into a "real" World Series at the end of the year instead of the beginning.

The Bucks couldnt slow down Blake Griffin last night. He had a triple-double in the Clippers win over the Bucks. Milwaukee now has four winnable games in a row before facing the Miami Heat on March 15th. They can hopefully catch Boston to earn the 7th spot in the playoffs and avoid faciing Miami in the first round. The Heat won their 16th straight last night.

The 98th annual State boys basketball tournament gets under way today in Madison. Unfortunatley it was a down year for hoops and only 2 teams in D-4 have made the trip to the Kohl Center and they have to play in the semi-finals. Auburndale will take on Amherst tonight.

Girls basketball sectionals are being played tonight. Wausau Newman,Colby, Marathon, Rapids Assumption, Neillsville, Nekoosa & Owen-Withee are still alive.

The Badger men's basketball team returns to action tonight as they face Michigan State on the road. You can hear the game on WSAU with the pre-game at 7pm.
