A Nice Run

Posted by Tom King on

The Milwaukee Brewers run for the playoffs probably came to an end yesterday with a crushing loss in Cincy. Leading 1-0 with 2 outs in the 9th...Todd Frazier who had struck out 8 times in the series and hadnt homered in over a month went deep off John Axford to tie it. They then got a single from Jay Bruce and an unlikely triple to catcher Dioner Navarro to win it. Axford had been perfect since August 10th but not on this day. The Brewer offense had a chancee to add an insurance run in the 8th but left him on 3rd base. They are now 4 games back with six to play and finish at home with Houston and San Diego.

It was nice to see them come back from oblivion and make the month of September interesting...they are set up nicely for next year.

The Badgers have a big test right out of the gate to open the Big Ten season. Nebraska is fighting to not let their season slip away as are the Badgers. Travis Frederick says the O-line has some problems fixed and will be ready to go.

Mike McCarthy also says his offensive line should play better this week against New Orleans. The Packers need to win this game at home or their season could be unrecoverable.

The Wausau East Lumberjacks and DC Everest Evergreens hook up tonight at Steihm Stadium. Everest needs a win to keep any playoff hopes alive. East has won 2 in a row and will look to clinch a playoff spot tonight. Since it is an Everest home game the regular voice of the Evergeens Chris Conley will have the game on Foxsports1390 at 7pm. I'll be a happy spectator watching to see what new offensive wrinkles the East coaching staff will come up with this week.

The golf season will unofficially end this weekend with the Ryder Cup in suburban Chicago. Everyone wants to see Tiger vs Rory in singles on Sunday. We will see if the captains agree to do it.

I'll be doing the PA and hosting the pre game cermonies at the Central Wisconsin Saints hockey game at KB Willet Arena in Stevens Point on Saturday night. The Saints will be rembering their owner Joe Zuniga who passed away earlier this year. Come on out and catch some good Junior hockey and help recognize Joe who meant alot to hockey in the Stevens Point area over the years. Game time is 7.

Songs of The Day   (from my I-pod)

King Midas In Reverse-Hollies (1967) Graham Nash decided to leave the Hollies when they were hesitant to do more complex songs like this. Seems like he made the right choice.
