A Look At The Future

The Milwaukee Brewers are looking at an outside chance at a wildcard spot in the playoffs. They would have to continue to play above average baseball for the rest of the season and get some help if they hope to accomplish what would be an amazing comeback. That being said they are also going to look at pitchers for next season. You can expect a wholesale overhaul of the staff over the winter and that began with the release of Randy Wolf and will continue now with the September callups of Wily Peralta, Tyler Thornburg, Brandon Kintzler  and Jeff Stinson. Peralta will make his first major league start tonight. With Yovanni Gallardo set at the top of the rotation for next year it will be an interesting competition in the spring with Peralta, Thornburg, Mark Rogers, Marco Estrada, Mike Fiers, a returning Chris Narveson and whoever they decide to sign in free agency (Zach Grienke anyone?) . Fans have been wanting to see what the young guys can do...you will have your chance for the next three weeks.

The NFL season begins tonight as Dallas visits the New York Giants. The Packers open late Sunday at home with the 49ers. Should be interesting when Randy Moss is introduced at Lambeau.

The Badgers dropped a spot to 13th in the polls yesterday. Apparantly they didnt beat Northern Iowa badly enough on Saturday.

No surprise that Steve Stricker was named to the Ryder Cup team. He's Tiger's favorite partner plus he can still compete at a high level. He, Furyk, Mickelson & Woods give some veteran leadership to the young guns.

Songs of The Day  (from my I-pod)

Keep On Smilin-Wet Willie(1974) part of the southern rock explosion of the early & mid seventies. This Alabama group went Top Ten with this one

Keep On Truckin-Eddie Kendricks(1973) one of the finest falsetto voices in pop music history...Kendricks left the Temptations to go solo and had a number 1 smash with this soul classic. He died too soon in his early fifties of lung cancer.
