The debate goes on about the length of the major league baseball season. The World Series starts tonight and up to three games could be played in the open air of Detroit. Now Michigan in late October is obviously not optimal for the 'summer game'. Even if the rain holds off (which is unlikely) you could see night-time temps dropping into the 30's. Here you have the two remaining teams, after battling all season to get here, fighting not only their opponent but the weather conditions as well. There are really only two answers to the problem. All teams north of the Mason-Dixson line play in domed stadiums (or at least retractable roofs) or shorten the season. With the geriatric commissioner intent on adding more playoff games it would seem that taking the schedule back to 154 games might help alleviate the problem. Now baseball is a game of numbers...and there will be those that will complain about tainting the sanctity of the numbers. But seasons were 154 games before expansion in the early sixties and it certainly is a better option than watching players in the World Series wearing ski-masks.

Justin Verlander vs Barry Zito tonight. I had a chance to talk to Zito when the major league All-Star game was in Milwaukee. He is a laid back surfer dude and a funny guy. Most of the players showed up to the interviews wearing Armani and lots of bling...he showed up in a flowered Hawaiian shirt, baggy shorts and flip-flops. He has been alot better this season after struggling for most of his high priced contract with the Giants. Verlander is of course the top pitcher in the game right now ...plus he's allegedly dating Kate Upton. Life is good.

The Packers are 14 1/2 point favorites to win the this Sunday vs Jacksonville. The Jaguars are not good and now they have lost their best player, Maurice Jones-Drew for a number of weeks with an injured foot. The Packers havent lost a home game in 11 years when favored by more than 10.
