I listened to much of the Badger game on the radio this week and if you havent done that this season it may surprise you to know that the Badger Radio Network (as heard on WSAU) has gone to a three man booth. The always solid Matt Lepay and Wisconsin historian/stathead Mike Lucas have been joined by former Packer & Badger Mark Tauscher. Now normally, a three man booth really doesnt work. Not enough time for two color guys to get their points across. But in this case it does...as Tauscher is pretty good. The long-time lineman gives a perspective as a former player but without alot of the cliches that many former players bring to the gig. If this is something he wants to pursue, he's off to a good start.
He had one of those golden moments in the second half as he speculated that it was time for the Badgers to create a turnover...and it wasnt 3 seconds later that Wisconsin got an interception.
The Badgers running game is really clicking and this week it was with a re-vamped offensive line due to injury. Now Minnesota is not that good and it will be interesting what they can do this week with Sparty but it seems the worries we had earlier this season at least about the running game seem unfounded.
The Packers took care of business yesterday and with two home games the next two weeks vs Jacksonville and Arizona there is no reason why they cant go into the bye at 6-3. Its after the bye week that the schedule really heats up. Aaron Rodgers is playing at a high level despite what appears some nagging injuries. Hopefully they get no worse.
The high school football season came to an end for many of the central Wisconsin teams on Friday night including me. The East Lumberjacks fell behind early and could never catch up against Holmen. I have to say that this year's edition of the Lumberjacks was alot of fun to watch. They opened up the playbook and took advantage of alot of senior playmakers to put together an entertaing and successful season. Many of those players will now move into the basketball season. We get a few weeks off before the wiinter season begins in hoops and hockey.
Maybe I can hit a few Friday night fish fries before that happens.
Its a game 7 tonight in the NLCS. The Cardinals couldnt finish off the Giants and now will have to face Matt Cain in San Fran with the season on the line. As resilient as the Cardinals have been over the last few years...I've got to go with the Giants in this one.
Downloaded the new Donald Fagen album "Sunken Condos" over the weekend. It's really funky!
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
La Bamba-Ritche Valens (1958) although he will always be more famous for going down in the plane crash that also killed Buddy Holly...Valens was one of the fist latino's that broke though with mainstream music success
LA Goodbye-Ides Of March (1971) A followup to their smash hit Vehicle...this one was big in the midwest but never hit nationally. The Ides of March did feature Jim Peterik who you have heard on many hits bu other bands as well. Here are the Ides as they toured just a few years ago.
