Today is the 50th anniversery of the discovery of Russian missiles in Cuba. I was only five years old and blissfully starting kindergarten at Franklin School in Wausau never realizing how close we came to it all coming to a smoking end. When we talk about the greatest presidents of all-time we trot out the usual suspects...Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln & Roosevelt. If we think of John Kennedy at all it's because of the end of his life or his romantic entanglements...not a year earlier when he not only stared down the Russians but also stared down his own military & diplomatic advisors who advocated for an attack on Cuba that almost certainly would have led to a nuclear exchange with the Soviet Union. As we move through the next thirteen days...pause for a moment and if you arent familiar with this period in history...learn how close we came to nuclear war and the leadership of John F. Kennedy that avoided it
William Devane played a pretty good JFK and this TV version of events is pretty good.
Montee Ball was named Big Ten Offensive Player of The Week for his efforts at Purdue. He also set two Bit Ten records with 72 touchdowns and 434 points...both held by Ron Dayne.
Two more Packers on IR...Brandon Saine & DJ Smith are done for the year. That means a third stringer will have to step up at inside linebacker.
The Bucks are 2-0 in the pre-season and will play at Chicago tonight. You can hear the game on Foxsports1390 at 6:40
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Kingfish-Levon Helm (2009) from his Grammy Award winning "Electric Dirt" album comes this lively re-working of the Randy Newman classic about former Lousiana govenor Huey Long.
Kodachrome-Paul Simon (1973) A huge solo hit for Simon. One of America's greatest songwriters who really gets forgotten in many conversations
