What Is The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame?

Posted by Tom King on

We've been having an animated discussion about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after yesterday's announcement of the latest nominees.  The questions being raised...Is the R&R Hall of Fame too generous with what they consider R&R. Abba is in...Madonna is in...some people around here have narrowed their definition of the genre and it doesnt include pop, or rap, disco or what were once called middle-of-the-road singers (think Neil Diamond). My opinion is that rock & roll ecompasses all of that and alot more...blues, country-rock...outlaw country, hip-hop,...if an artist has a long and successful career or has done something groundbreaking or influential, they should be considered

This years first time nominees include Rush, Deep Purple, Heart, Chic, Donna Summer, Randy Newman, Public Enemy, NWA, Kraftwerk, Albert King, Marvelettes, & Procol Harum. If I had a vote I probably would vote for all except Chic & Procol Harum. I know that there are some who don't share the opinion that groups like Public Enemy or NWA or singers like Donna Summer  should be considered. My idea of Rock & Roll is a big tent ...besides who wouldnt want to see Randy Newman on stage  jamming with Flava Flav ?

Let the Wild Card madness begin tonight. You battle for 162 games and now your season comes down to one roll of the dice...St. Louis at Atlanta and Baltimore at Texas. You would think that the Braves and Rangers are favored but we know what happens when you discount the Cardinals in the post-season...and the Orioles have been great in tight ballgames which many playoff games usually are.

Its a football Friday night...a doubleheader on Foxsports1390 will feature Wausau West at DC Everest in game 1 at 7 and I'll have the call of Wausau East hosting Appleton East at Thom Field.

Here on some samples of the R&R Hall Of Fame Inductees

Political Science-Randy Newman (1973) this bit of brilliant satire was written 39 years ago but could have been written yesterday

Subdivisons-Rush (1983) a scathing look at life in the suburbs in the 80's

Burn-Deep Purple (1973) this kicks all kinds of ass!!!

Fight The Power-Public Enemy (1989) not my cup of tea but you can't disregard the energy and the effect they had on the future of muisc
