It won't top the madness of last year but the final day of the baseball regular season still should hold some thrills today. Plus the travel that some of the teams will face is nuts. The extra wild card game could be adding alot of cross country travel in a very short time frame. The Oakland A's can complete one of the most improbable seasons ever if they can beat Texas today...they would clinch the West after Texas has led most of the season. Considering the A's were supposed to finish last, just being a wild card team is weird enough. And the Orioles could still force a one game playoff to decide the AL East if they can win and the Yankees lose.
Can Miguel Cabrera pull off the Triple Crown? Even in these stat crazy days where we have learned that batting average and RBI's are not the most important stats to follow...the idea that Miggy could lead in both plus homers is an important milestone. It hasnt been done since the 1967 Impossible Dream season of the Red Sox by Carl Yaztremzski. It also shows what kind of a season Mike Trout of the Angels has had that he is even in the running for the MVP award over Cabrera.
The Brewers started seven rookies last night and beat San Diego. Martin maldonado had a grand slam and Jim Henderson picked up his first major league win. The two teams finish their seasons tonight...the game has been moved to our sister station Foxsports1390 because of the Presidential Debate on WSAU.
A big day in tv history...on this day in 1955 both Captain Kangaroo and The Mickey Mouse Club debuted.
This is also the anniversery of the "Shot Heard Round The World" in 1951.
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
King Of Rock & Roll-Dio (1985) Ronnie Jame Dio...one of the great Rock voices of all-time
King Tut-Steve Martin (1978) one of the more unlikely hits ever. I saw Martin at the height of his powers in Madison back in 78. He had complete control of his audience. Here is the live version from SNL that spawned the recording. The backing band on the record was the Nitty Gritty Dirt band!
