When the Indy Colts decided to let icon Peyton Manning go in favor of selecting Andrew Luck with the #1 pick in the NFL draft, many experts said it would be tough transition. even a Manning coming back from a serious injury would be more competitive that a rookie stepping into a re-building situation. Well, this scenario has yielded a couple of surprises. I don't think many people except maybe John Elway, expected Manning to play as well as he has...and Luck has been nothing short  of a revelation. For those college football fans who didnt see Luck much out on the west coast...he has stepped in and been everything that the Colts were hoping and more. And the Colts are in playoff contention...something nobody foresaw. Everybody was ready to coronate Robert Griffin III with the Rookie of The Year award after a few early games...but it appears that Luck will be the guy who will have the more sustained and successful NFL career.

Luck and the Colts are in action tonight against Jacksonville.

Who will it be at quarterback for the Badgers this week? Bret Beilema said he told his team on Tuesday but is keeping the information close to the vest. I've got to believe he gives Curt Phillips a chance this week. The Hoosier defense is not very good although they do rush the passer well. Phillips has better scrambling ability than O'Brien and that may be the determining factor.

The Badger basketball team rolled over UW-Oshkosh as expected and we got a good look at some of the newer players who will have to contribute this season. 11 points on 5-7 shooting for George Marshall...Frank Kaminsky had 12 points...as the Badgers got 34 points from their bench. Five Badgers scored in double figures. Wisconsin will host Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon.

The Bucks lost their first of the season and it shows what will happen if they don't play tight, physical defense. They need a win against Washington on Friday because they face three tough games right after that. Need to avoid long losing streaks if they are going to make the playoffs.

Did you catch this weeks 'Boardwalk Empire"? Billie Kent we hardly knew you and will miss you ...and we can see the rise of Al Capone beginning. Some critics say the show moves too slow...I say you need alot of set up if you want the shocking moments to have more impact.

Songs of The Day   (from my I-pod)

Last Train Running-Whiskey Falls (2007) They played here at Rib Mountain a number of years ago and I though this song was pretty strong for a new group...don't know if they are still together.

Last Train To Clarksville-Monkees (1967) The boys in the band wanted to be taken seriously...the record company wanted to sell stuff to teeny-boppers...here is a pop classic with a hidden message...didnt realize for many years that the song is about a guy leaving for Viet Nam...
