I was at Lambeau Field yesterday for the Packer-Cardinal game courtesy of my old friend Kurt Eggebrecht who has season tickets and invited me along with his son Kurt and another old friend Jeff Adams. His seats are in the 4th row by the side of the end zone. The Packers warm up right in front of you and you can see the equipment they wear much better than on TV. I was surprised at how little equipment some of them wear, especially the recievers and d-backs. No leg or knee pads whatsoever. Now I realize they probably figure it slows them down...but could it play into the numerous injuries we've seen? The hits when you get up close seem much more devestating as well. And the athleticism of these recievers is something to see. The second Cobb TD was right in our laps and that catch was spectacular...the Jones catch was outstanding as well.
Of course we were blessed with having a couple of loud and obnoxious drunks right behind us. You know the type...a guy who knows everything about football and has to tell the whole section in the loudest slurring voice possible...and his female companion who was swearing like a sailor. We got relief when they decided to watch most of the second half from a bar....probably didnt want to buy anymore 8 dollar beers.
Another parking lot highlight was a guy with nothing on but a pair of speedo briefs and his body painted green & gold...and he was still there after the game...but was drunk enough to not notice the frostbite I suppose.
I've said before it takes alot to get me off the couch and to the stadium for any sport in these days of big screen high def picture...but once in awhile its good to get up close and personal...plus the tailgate burgers were good and we had a great time. Thanks Kurt!
By the way...I forgot to bring my phone with me...left it sitting in my car at home. I actually had to watch and interact with the environment around me instead of a virtual one on-line. What a unique concept!
The Bucks have started the season 2-0 after winning Saturday night on a Brandon Jennings buzzer beating three pointer. I'm telling you...I'm in for this edition of the Bucks...they are going to be able to defend the paint...rebound...and score...and I know it's only two games but it seems like they are buying into what Skiles is selling. he better hope so...since he's a lame duck. We'll see if that continues after they lose a few games.
