For a short stretch of the late 70's no female singer was hotter than Donna Summer. She was known as the Queen of The Discos and her hits pounded through speakers at clubs all over the world. "I Feel Love", "Hot Stuff", "Enough Is Enough", "MacArthur Park", "Last Dance, "Bad Girls"...and the hits just kept on coming. Later she had some personal travails and found God. She passed away yesterday at 63 after battling cancer. I was a disco jock in those days and there were many a night if the regular tunes werent filling the dance floor you could always count on the pulsating beat and the soaring voice of Donna Summer to get the job done.
One quick story from Wausau back then. I was working weekends at WIFC while in college at UWSP and we played Donna Summer's first single 'Love to Love You Baby". As you may remember she got rather breathy and aroused in that song which didnt play well with some of our listeners. there was one guy who went to the Pranges store in downtown Wausau (in the building across from the YMCA) and bought all of the copies of the record and broke them on 3rd street.
Don't look now but Miami Heat are in trouble. The Indiana Pacers hammered the Heat last night and lead that series 2-1. The Pacers have been flying under the radar but they can definitly win this series. Without Chris Bosh the Heat's inside game is limited.
La Crosse and Whitewater face off today in a loser out game at the NCAA D-3 baseball regional at Whitewater. The other games are St. Norbert vs Aurora and St. Thomas vs St. Scholastica.
No high school baseball today but I will be in River Falls tomorrow (Saturday) as the Wausau East Lumberjacks play two against River Falls and New Richmond starting at 1:20.
Songs of the Day (from my I-pod) has to be a couple from Donna Summer
On The Radio-Donna Summer (1979) one of her colloborations with Disco King Giorgio Moroder
MacArthur Park-Donna Summer (1978) Her first number 1 as she took a sappy Jimmy Webb tune and made it a smash
