The Woodchucks and Madison Mallards hooked up in one of the uglier games in recent memory last night at Athletic Park. It did turn pretty for the Woodchucks as they pulled out a 9-6 win scoring 3 runs in the 6th and four in the eighth inning while only recording one hit. The Mallard bullpen was atrocious allowing three runs on wild pitches in one inning. The two teams combined for 8 errors, 17 walks, eight wild pitches and seven hit batsmen in the game. I thought the Chucks were a pretty good defensive team earlier in the season but they have really been struggling with the gloves lately. The two teams play again tonight at Athletic Park and you can hear the game on Foxsports1390 WRIG at 6:15.
Wausau West grad Seth McMullen has been playing on a temp contract with Madison and tonight is his last game. He told me last night that he may start tonights game so come on out and give him a good send-off. McMullen was named a college All-American this spring at Winona State but has been struggling with the bat so far this summer. It remains to be seen if he will hook on with another team.
SPASH begins play at the WIAA State BAseball Tournament today. They face Oconomowoc at 1pm . The other games include Bayport vs Kenosha Bradford, Middleton vs Hartford aqnd Appleton North vs Sun Prairie.

The Brewers return to action tonight on the road at Kansas City. Zach Grienke pitches against his old team. You can hear the game on WSAU at 6:35. Milwaukee will be playing interleague for the next two weeks.
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Jeanne Needs A Shooter-Warren Zevon (1980) from the "Bad Luck Streak At Dancing School" album...Zevon might have been at the height of his powers at this point but his appetities and demons were starting to come back. This is a really strong live version featuring his crack band.
Jellico Highway-Refugees (2009) a great song about loss written by Cindy Bullens who joined with Wendy Waldman and Deborah Holland to form this group in 2007. All are old pros and their voices meld beautifully. This is a song you will listen to again and again.
