Stan Kyles was fired on Monday by the Milwaukee Brewers. Kyles was the Brewers bullpen coach and one of those lifers around the game . He had been with the team in various capacities for 11 years. Doug Melvin admitted that Kyles wasnt sorely responsible for the meltdown in the Brewers bullpne but someone had to be held accountable and the old saying goes that 'you cant fire the players" . I would say why not? Melvin knows and most fans know that the bad pitching from the Brewers pen isnt Kyle's fault. But firing him is an easy answer. Its easier than releasing Loe, Hernandez, K-Rod, Parra & Axford and starting from scratch. When a reliever loses his confidence he wont be much good for anything. The slop continued last night and it took a fabulous defensive play from Ceasar Izturis and Corey Hart to bail the pen out again. Other teams have rebuilt an entire bullpen during a single off-season...Tampa Bay springs to mind...expect Milwaukee to do the same this winter.

Golds for Missy Franklin and Matt Grevers in the pool yesterday but no medal for Ryan Lochte for the first time in his Olympic career.

A sloppy game for the Woodchucks last night as their 17 game home winning streak came to an end. The Chucks made 4 errors and many more mental mistakes in a 10-4 loss to the Battle Creek Bombers but they didnt lose any ground in the chase for the second half championship. La Crosse beat Madison to keep the Woodchucks 4 games in front.

Wausau West grad John Roberts made his Woodchcuks debut last night...pitching two innings. He gave up some hits and runs(none earned) and pitched alright. His defense didnt do him any favors.

We used to have the bartender play this to death at the Scott Street Steak & Pub in the early 80's. They had the best stereo and record collection in town.
