The Green Bay Packers laid an egg on Monday Night Football, losing to the Bears 20-17. This was a game that was there for the taking but Green bay couldnt get out of their own way to make it happen. A late fumble by James Jones hurt and Devin Hester returned a punt for a TD but it was the 18 penalties for 152 yards that killed the Pack. Also, the lack of any running game, while maybe not being key in this one, will certainly come into play down the road as teams won't even worry about it and come after Rodgers with a vengeance. I realize that Packer fans are intense but some of the reactions I'm reading on-line are a bit disturbing. Relax people...life goes on...repeat after me...it's just one game...it's just one game...it's just one game.
George Blanda passed away at the age of 83. He played 26 seasons and was the oldest player to appear in a game at trhe age of 48. He also was on 11 championship teams in the NFL and AFL. Is it just me or did players back in the 50's & 60s look old even in their 20's. There were very few metrosexuals in the NFL back then...most of the players looked like the dock-workers or truck drivers they were in the off-season.
Philly clinched the NL East last night. I wouldnt want to face the Phillies pitching staff in the postseason.
Happy Birthday to 3 great recievers today...Steve Largent is 56...Irving Fryar is 48...and Charley Taylor is 69.
This is the anniversery of the original indictment in the Black Sox Scandal. Eight members of the White Sox were charged in 1920 with throwing the 1919 World Series. Watch the movie "Eight Men Out" for an entertaining telling of this story.
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod) a couple of Steve Miller Band cuts today
Going To Mexico-Steve Miller Band (1970) before his pop stardom when Miller was still a bluesey guitar player. I find myself singing this one over and over.
Going to the Country-Steve Miller Band (1970) from the same Lp "5" comes this country-rock shuffle. I like this version of the Steve Miller Band much more than the sterile pop version of the late 70's
