The Detroit Lions got screwed. There is no other way to put it. Once again the officials decide a game wiping out a fantastic play by a team in desperate need of some positive results. The officals can spin this anyway they want coming up with this "process" nonsense but the bottom line is that calvin Johnson caught the ball...and landed on the ground in the end zone in possession of the ball...end of story. The only people who didnt think this was a touchdown were the officials and Bear fans...and even some of them will probably admit it should have been a score. Fox has hired a former official to work the studio looking at plays like this. We will see how many times he overules the his old buddies this season.
The Packers were not as solid as you would have hoped but anytime you can get a win on the road in the NFL you will take it. Positives included Clay Mathews...Jordy Nelson...Brandon Jackson....BJ Raji and Mason Crosby. Obviously the secondary is a work in progress and Aaron Rodgers admitted he didnt play well. They return home now to take on the toothless Buffalo Bills. That should help them feel better.
Other NFL Surprises....Seattle beating SF bad....Houston upsetting the Colts....Washington beating Dallas (also on a holding call that wiped out a Cowboy touchdown)
Not a surprise was Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco already involved in controversy. When the Bengals needed to try a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half...neither of their best receivers were on the field. Ochocinco was getting fluids injected in the locker room...but nobody as a good reason why Owens wasnt on the field. it appears he just went in early not expecting to be needed. Typical.
Team USA wins the World Basketball Championships beating Turkey 81-64. Who needs Kobe, Lebron and Dwayne when we have Kevin Durant on the case. It's the first win in the event for the Americans since 1994
The Badgers were fine on Saturday. Don't buy into the complaining about not beatng San Jose State by enough. Clean up the turnovers and it's another dominating performance. Anybody can win on Saturdays in college football. Just ask James Madison or South Dakota State.
DC Everest is showing that last year's football season was an abberation. They dominated Wausau East on Friday night and looked fast. It should be an interesting matchup this week as they take on Wisconsin Rapids...another team that has looked very good this year.
Songs of the Day (from my I-pod)
Gloria-Them (1964) the garage band classic that every band had to know. Van Morrison wrote it and sang it originally.
Glory Days-Bruce Springsteen (1984) The Boss takes a rueful look at fleeting fame..It was the 5th single from "Born In The USA". Movie Director John Sayles directed the video.
