I have been busy with baseball plus my tv is not working properly so I haven't been able to catch any of the World Cup action yet. I understand the significance of the Team USA tie with England. It sure seemed more like a win for the US. Non-soccer fans here seem to get into this because of the international aspect. The fan bases of the other teams are certainly into it. I think the lines are drawn pretty clearly...either you are a soccer person or you're not. I'm not...sorry.
That being said I understand quality of play. Congrats to the Wausau East girls soccer team for earning their second straight trip to the State Tournament. In what was a struggling year for Lumberjack sports this team, which had a bullseye on it's back all season came through and will play on this week.
The Woodchucks have an off day today. They will play a doubleheader with Eau Claire Tuesday night at Athletic Park ...game time 5:35. It's Ron Dayne night at the ballpark as the Badger legend and Heisman Trophy winner will be signing autographs and meeting fans. If you can't make it out to the ballpark...join us on Foxsports1390 WRIG. I'll be in the booth with Adam for the doubleheader tomorrow night.
The Wausau Legion baseball team began the season over the weekend and went 3-1...sweeping Nekoosa on Saturday and splitting with Menasha on Sunday. The Post 10 Bulldogs are the defending State Champions and will host Rhinelander tonight (Monday) in a doubleheader at Athletic Park...game time 5:30...Admission is free...stop on out. One moment of bragging...my son Cory pitched the win over Menasha allowing just 3 hits in the game. He took advantage of an offensive explosion as the his teammates put 17 runs on the board. And, Seth McMullen will be re-joining the Bulldogs tonight. He has one more year of Legion eligibility and was playing for the Woodchucks the past week. But with the influx of a bunch of new players, the Chucks didn't have much playing time for Seth so he will play this summer for Post 10.
Songs of the Day (from my I-pod)
Freeborn Man-Outlaws (1976) one of the more under-rated rock bands of the 70's. this Florida based outfit brought the 3 guitar-southern rock sound blazing out of Tampa for a good stretch of the decade. This is from their second LP "Lady In Waiting".
Freeway Jam-Jeff Beck (1975) the mid to late 70's saw a rise in what was called "fusion jazz". The best of it combined both jazz and rock elements and one of the groundbreaking Lps of the genre was "Blow By Blow" from the former Yardbirds guitarist. This is one of the more popular cuts from that Lp.
