Area baseball teams will be thinking about State today as they lace em up for the sectionals. Each team will have to win two games against top competition to advance. Wausau West who has played excellent baseball for the last couple of weeks will face off with Bayport. It's probably the toughest sectional in Wisconsin with Ashwaubenon and Green Bay Southwest playing the other game. Stevens Point will play River Falls. Spash coaught a break when River Falls upset #1 seed Eau Claire North in the Regional Championship. Merrill has a tough matchup with Eau Claire Memorial. Medford plays Seymour, Neillsville battles Elk Mound, Marathon vs Crandon, Greenwood plays Athens and Rosholt goes up against Pembine/Goodman.
Softball Sectionals today include Wausau West vs Marshfield, Stevens Point vs Kimberly, Mosinee vs Rice Lake, Iola/Scandanavia, Pacelli ve Neillsville, Athens vs Rosholt and Tigerton faces Wausaukee.
The Brewers finally gulped hard and swallowed the rest of Jeff Suppan's contract. They decided throwing good money after bad by continuing to trot him out there only infuriated the fan base.
The Stephen Strasburg era begins tonight for the Washington Nationals. He has torn through the minors after a stellar college career and seems to be ready to help lift the Nationals into contention. Washington also drafted another stud with the first pick in the baseball draft last night selecting Bryce Harper. The 17 year old has already been on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the next "can't miss'...we will see.
The Woodchucks return to Athletic park tonight to take on the Eau Claire Express. They were shut out last night 5-0 to drop to 3-3 on the season. I'll be in the booth with Adam Seidel tonighty on our sister station Foxsports1390 WRIG.
Songs of the Day (from My I-pod)
Frail Grasp on The Big Picture-Eagles (2007) Another Don Henley polemic on the human condition. Henley wears his views on his sleeve and doesnt expect much to change.
Frankenstein-Edgar Winter Group (1973) I bought this LP when it came out because i was fascinated by the sound and the look of Winter who was a white haired albino who wore his keyboard around his neck (the first to do that). The sound was also kick-ass as Rick Derringer added his guitar to the mix. This was a time when instrumentals could still become hits on the radio (Jessica by the Allman Bros and Outa-Space by Billy Preston are two other examples)
