As if the pro golf tour didn't have enough problems with the Tiger Woods scandal and the loss of sponsors due to the recession. Now comes this week's accusation by Scott McCarron that Phil Mickelson is using an illegal club. He even used the word "cheating" to describe what Lefty is doing. The controversy stems from a rules change the PGA Tour has instigated on the use of clubs with square grooves. They are no longer allowed...except for a loophole that allows old Ping clubs because of a pending lawsuit brought by the company. Mickelson is using a 20 year old Ping wedge this week in San Diego and other players are appalled that he would try to get an advantage this way. The stench of cheating is hard to shake on the tour...just ask Vijay Singh how long it took him to get past his reputation. Mickelson needs to stop using a loophole to get an advantage...in the long run it's not worth it.
Congrats to the Wausau Newman Cardinal girls basketball team as they kocked off the number 1 ranked Rapids Assumption squad last night. Also the East girls got their first conference win over Rhinelander. West swept DC Everest in girls and boys hoops.
