The Wausau West Hockey team started the playoffs last night with an 11-0 whitewash of Stevens Point Pacelli at Marathon Park. The Warriors are the number 1 seed and looked it, moving the puck and setting up scoring chances in bunches. West now awaits the winner of tonight's game between Wausau East and Lakeland also at Marathon Park. If you can't make it out to the rink I'll have the game for you on Foxsports 1390 WRIG...pre game 7PM. DC Everest advanced over Mosinee 2-0. The Evergreen defense and the goaltending of Mark Lambrecht proved to be too tough for the Indians who were the higher seed. Everest will play at Stevens Point next Tuesday after SPASH eliminated Northland Pines 5-2.

The Central Wisconsin Storm, Point/Rapids and Northland Pines advanced in the girls hockey tournament.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers seem to have Wisconsin's number. The won both games last year and last night took the only meeting of the teams this year with a 68-52 shellacking of the Badgers at Williams Arena. The Gophers outscored Wisconsin 23-5 at the foul line.

A good day for the Wisconsin guys on Team USA at the Olympics. The US beat Norway 7-1 in men's hockey as former Badger Brian Rafalski had two goals, Joe Pavelski had two assists and Madison native Phil Kessel had a goal. Next up, the big matchup with Canada on Sunday.
