Airlines separating kids from parents

planeAre airline fees out of control?

Recently a family booked a flight to Disney World seven months in advance JUST so they could sit together and when they arrived at the airport their flight was changed and they were separated from their 5 year old. The airline said they could reassign the seat for a $60 fee!

Imagine you are the childless passenger that gets stuck next to someone elses snot-nosed 5 year old, whining about snacks, begging to play games, read stories or take them to the bathroom. Now the parent of that child, that hasn't stopped talking long enough to take a breath in the last 45 minutes, is sitting in the back of the plane enjoying a good book or taking a nap, just enjoying the peace and quiet.

I would think there would be arguments from all sides on this topic so how are airlines getting away with this craziness? The common argument for airline shenanigans is "this is for our safety" but there is no way this is good for anyone.
