Students who posted a horrific sign, "Top Ten Ways To Get Away With Rape" in a men's bathroom in a co-ed dorm at Ohio's Miami University have been found, but not prosecuted. They may be suspended and could be removed from the residence hall, but no legal action will be taken.
The sign encourages the readers to rape unconscious women, prey on those walking alone, and always wear condoms. The sign also suggests "practice makes perfect, the more you rape the better you are at it!"
School officials attempted to sweep this story under the rug but the students are up in arms. The University is now facing allegations of not doing enough to protect students from sexual assult. There have been 27 sexual assults reported on campus between 2009 and 2011. The numbers for 2012 have not been released. If that's how many have been reported how many have gone unreported? The University's Sexual Assult Prevention Coordinator position has been vacant for a year.
The University cannot release the names of those responsible for the surprising sign because of federal student privacy regulations. I don't know what they could be charged with, but I think they should be punished for something and female students should know who was responsible for these signs for their own protection.
