Changes to Vaccines in WI

Posted by Nikki Montgomery on

I got this PSA on my desk and I was surprised I didn't hear of it sooner. I thought I had better do my public service and share it with all of you. For those of you who have insurance, but go to the public health clinics for your children's shots you will no longer be able to do that. I know some parents who do this because it is cheaper than going to the doctor's office.

As of October 1 Wisconsin residents who have insurance (even with high deductibles) cannot get vaccinations at local health departments. The restriction is related to funding changes at the federal level. However, there are some exceptions, pertussis-containing vaccines because of the current statewide outbreak in Wisconsin and the flu vaccines.

Uninsured children and those eligible for the Vaccines for Children program can continue to receive their immunizations at their local health department.
