Best Buy announced yesterday that they will close 50 big box stores in favor of 100 smaller mobile stores. Best Buy operates 1,450 locations nationwide and 2,900 worldwide and in order to avoid the fate of their former rival Circuit City, that went out of business in 2009, Best Buy would need to cut costs by $800 million by 2015. The sales of TV's, video game consoles, and digital cameras has weakened while sales of cell phones, tablets, and e-readers have increased. Smaller stores focusing on these items would be more cost effective for the company. Best Buy has not released a list of the stores that will be closing, but it will be made available as soon as it is finalized.
I would rather see smaller stores than to see the whole chain go out of business that's for sure. You can always order stuff online if they don't have it in store. If those mobile locations do site to store that would work out just fine.
What store (chain not location) would you hate to see close?
