Living to 100

Posted by Nikki Montgomery on

Today I'm thinking I will live to see Mia turn 70 and she will live to see her kids turn 80.

Our life expectancy these days is somewhere between 75 and 80. However today's babies can expect to live much longer. According to a new report one out of every three babies born in 2012 will live to see 100. More females than males, but the number is surprisingly close. Advances in medicine, diet, healthy living, environmental protection, and safety are major factors.

I think Mia has a really really good chance of seeing 2112. Longevity runs in my family. My maternal grandfather lived to be 88 and my maternal grandmother turns 95 this October. My paternal grandmother is in her 80s and doing well considering the life expectancy after a hip fracture is only about 5 years. I've always said that I'd live to be 100 so between all the things listed above and Mia's good genes she's a shoe in for 100.
