We had Mia's 4 month appointment yesterday and got to ask the doctor about introducing food into Mia's diet. The doctor told us not to start feeding her any baby food not even cereal until a week before her 6 month appointment. I guess this gives me a couple months to get baby food made and stored up. When I asked him how long we should wait between introductions of new foods he said not to worry if we don't have food allergy problems in our family history. Most moms I know fed their baby the same thing 3 days in a row before switching to something new just in case.
I also asked him about the order of food. My mom swears that you should introduce all vegetables to baby before any fruit because once they try fruit they won't want anything else. Her doctor did say to start with vegetables, but we can move through stuff pretty quickly.
He also said that at this point there's no proven benefit to breastmilk over formula so I could switch her to all formula if I want to. I have no interest in taking the doctor's advice on this subject. I believe breastmilk is still best for my baby and has a better chance of keeping her from getting sick because I pass immunities on to her. I plan to stick with it until she's a year old.
