4 million Bumbo seats are being recalled. 1 million of the seats were recalled in October 2007 to add a label warning against use on elevated surfaces. Now they are recalling 4 million after 50+ children have sustained injuries as a result of falling from the chairs. Some 21 infants reported to have sustained skull fractures.
If you have a Bumbo seat you can get a repair kit which includes a restrant belt and instructions on how to properly use the seat. The repair kit can be ordered by visiting www.recall.BumboUSA.com or calling 866-898-4999.
We used a Bumbo with Mia for a couple of months when she was too little to sit up on her own. It had a tray so we put toys on it for her so she could play. We loved it. We did use it on a chair once or twice, but we were always right there. I can certainly see how accidents could happen in them though. When we didn't have the tray on it Mia would lean all the way forward to grab stuff so I could see how she could fall out or tip it over. Again, we rarely ever put her in it if we weren't right next to her.
