Carrie Underwood on the premiere of Blue Bloods

Carrie Underwood  crooned alongside Tony Bennett during Friday night’s episode of ‘Blue Bloods‘ on CBS. The two played themselves on the Tom Selleck/Donnie Wahlberg drama, and sang ‘It Had to Be You,’ the song they recorded together for Bennett’s new ‘Duets II’ album.

Bennett’s appearance was worked into the plot of the season opening episode. Frank Reagan (played by Selleck) and his daughter Erin (played by Bridget Moynahan) attend a black-tie fundraiser thrown by the new Mayor-elect. The older Reagan hints that the only reason he’s going is because Bennett is performing, and it turns out the singer and cantankerous police commissioner are old pals.

Underwood’s role was minimal. Aside from singing, her only line was to remind people that her duet partner’s album was in stores.
