Okay we have Lamaze again tonight. Will I make it through without laughing? As I'm sure you heard or read I didn't do so well my first class. When it came time to relax and do the breathing exercises I broke out in laughter and couldn't stop. Today I'm hoping that I'll make it through the class without embarrassing my husband.
We haven't looked at the book we got since last week at class. Luckily there was no homework. We did however, before the class talk about what we want out of the birth experience. I guess we did a birth plan or at least part of one.
The biggest decision I have to make is whether or not I want drugs. Josh is leaving this totally up to me. Of course lamaze is a class to help you get through child birth naturally without the aid of drugs, but the instructor said at the beginning of class that she's not going to push us either way.
The great thing about lamaze even if I do decide that I want drugs is that if the labor goes quickly and I have no time for drugs I'll know what to do to cope with the pain. Plus it will help me in early labor deal with the contractions too by teaching me different positions and breathing techniques to get through the pain.
There are things I need to consider before deciding whether or not I want drugs.
- How much sleep did I get prior to labor
- How much energy I have
- How long labor lasts. If labor lasts a long time I will probably give in and ask for drugs
- What position the baby is in
- The support mom has and I know I will have lots of great support from my loving husband, my mom and my sister.
Options for pain relief:
- Breathing Techniques
- Positioning
- Water (Hydrotherapy)
- Hot & Cold Packs
- Massage
- Sterile Water Injections (for back pain)
- 'Gas & Air'
- Stadol
- Demerol
- Nubain
- Epidural
- General Anesthesia
