Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack

food pyramidFood food food! In the first trimester I was hungry all the time. I have gotten better since I started the second, but I'm still pretty hungry.

I tried so hard to eat healthy. When it came to snacks I'd eat nothing but fruits, veggies, cottage cheese and yogurt. But one day I went to the store and Pop Tarts looked really good. Then fruit snacks sounded like a good idea. Don't forget the occasional candy bar. It was like all will power went out the window when I was actually shopping. Not good!

My breakfast usually consists of a grain (cereal, granola bar, or oatmeal), dairy (milk, chocolate milk, or yogurt), and fruit (juice, applesauce, or orange). Lunch is usually not so well rounded and pretty much whatever I have or whatever I'm in the mood for. Then dinner consists of a lean meat, starch (potato, whole wheat pasta or brown rice) and vegetable (usually broccoli because that's my favorite).

I'm not gonna lie to you I have eaten sausage for dinner as my meat which is not lean at all, but sure does taste good. I also have gotten lazy a few times and eaten Hamburger Helper or pizza.

I have this food chart that is supposed to help me make good food choices and to get enough servings of everything that's good for me, but man that looks like a lot of food. I mean yeah, I'm hungry all the time, but I'm also tired and I need a nap plus I have work to do.

I did learn that the more often you eat small portions the less likely you are to get sick from morning sickness. Maybe that's how I avoided it. I kept a sleeve of saltines in my desk drawer just in case I needed something to much on or in case I felt nauseous. I found whole wheat saltines that in my opinion taste just like the regular ones. My husband says he can tell the difference, but they're still good.

I will have to make a deal with myself that if I have one of my lazy days in the kitchen I'm gonna have to take the dogs for a longer walk from here on out.

What foods did you have a hard time avoiding?
