Today I'm thinking that there's a new front-runner on American Idol. Crystal has had the title of front-runner since the beginning of the competition, but after the last two weeks she's been bumped from the top by the handsome Lee DeWyze, who received my Most Improved Player award a few weeks ago. The shy guy has confidence now and that's all he really needed, because he has the voice to win. Listen to the clip below to hear him perform "That's Life." All the judges loved him, Kara and Ellen both said he could win this competition.
Harry Connick Jr. Was the mentor for Frank Sinatra week. I love him! Josh cracked me up when he said, "He's a singer?" Josh only knows him as an actor from Independence Day, not even in a lead role like Hope Floats.
Harry was great, funny as usual and extremely helpful to the contestants. He even composed the arrangements for each one of them. "I expressed interest in writing the arrangements and orchestrations for the contestants, because I thought it would really be cool, ya know, to have something in connection with these guys," Harry said.
It really was cool. Unfortunately it didn't work out great for everyone.
Aaron Kelly started the night off with no real flare. Randy thought he did a good job, Kara thought he needed to fill up the stage more, and Simon thought it was a bit corny. I think he'll be in the bottom 3 tonight.
Casey James was the worst performance of the night singing "Blue Skies." None of the judges had a good thing to say. I think this may be the end of the road for him.
Crystal Bowersox again didn't do it for me with her performance of "Summer Wind." Though it was a million times better than Casey and Aaron it still wasn't the amazing performance I've come to expect from Mama Sox. Randy thought it was sleepy, Ellen loved seeing another side of her, Kara liked it and Simon told her she needs to step it up next week. She may be in danger of being in the bottom three this week.
Michael Lynche was back in his element singing "The Way You Look Tonight." Randy loved it and said it showed that he's in it to win it, Ellen said he looked the part and sounded the part, Kara loved how he took the audience on a journey and Simon thought it was fantastic. I LOVED IT!
Micheal and Lee were definitely the top two performers last night. We'll find out who the bottom 3 are and who's going home tonight on Fox.
