Crystal BowersoxToday I'm thinking about Crystal Bowersox's performance last night on Idol. She is awesome! She sang Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee" (listen below) Randy loved how Crystal "slayed" her performance, Ellen wants to see Crystal connect more with the audience, Kara wants Crystal to put down the guitar and Simon disagrees. She was by far my favorite performance of the night.

As for the rest of the evening; Miley Cyrus was the mentor for the top 11 and she didn't do too bad. She made some pretty good suggestions I think.

Lee Dewyze opened the contest with "The Letter" by The Box Tops and I thought he did a pretty good job with it. I really like his voice, but I agreed with Miley when she mentored him she said he needs more confidence. Ellen compared Lee to her favorite pen which I didn't really understand, but I don't understand much of what she says when she goes into those long strange comparisons. Kara thought he raised the bar for himself. Simon thought it was corny.

If any of the other contestants were going to have a bad night last night was the night because there is no doubt that Paige Miles was the worst performance of the night. In fact I agreed with Kara when she said it was the worst vocal of the season. She sang Phil Collins classic "Against All Odds" and absolutely murdered it! Randy flat out said it was terrible and Ellen agreed. Do I even need to tell you what Simon thought of it?

Tim Urban sang Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" it was bad, but he's got to be safe because Paige was a million times worse! Randy said it was bad karaoke, Ellen thought it was an audition for "High School Musical,"  Kara agreed, and Simon just thought it was silly.

Aaron Kelly did a great job with yet another ballad "I Don't Want To Miss a Thing" Aerosmith. Ellen thought it was the perfect song choice, Kara praised his vocal performance even though he was sick and Simon says he has zero chance of going home. Well, pretty sure that's because it's obvious who should go home.

Michael Lynch AKA Big Mike sang "When a Man Loves a Woman" and Miley said she fell in love with him when he looked her right in the eyes and sang the whole song to her during their mentoring session. Ellen thought it was safe, Kara thought it was a bit boring and Simon wanted him to update the song.

Miley Cyrus convinced Andrew Garcia to take the stage without his guitar last night to free him up to perform. He sang Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and did move around the stage, but his performance wasn't great. That's OK though, because like I said if he was gonna have an off night that was the night to do it. Randy kept it simple saying it wasn't good, Kara can't get over his "Straight Up" performance, Simon tells Andrew he doesn't know what kind of artist he is.

Katie Stevens performed "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie. Ellen called Katie the Dakota Fanning of American Idol, Kara thinks this is where Katie belongs in Pop/R&B, Simon thinks Katie still belongs in country music because the pop market is way too crowded.

Casey James did a great job on "The Power of Love" from "Back to The Future" by Huey Lewis and the News. Randy and Ellen both liked Casey's performance even thought they didn't like the song choice, Kara thinks Casey's ready to make an album, Simon thought he sounded like an 80's cover band.

Didi Benami sang "You're No Good" by Linda Ronstandt. I thought it was good, but I just really like Didi's voice. Ellen didn't like the song choice, Kara felt that Didi was playing a character during her performance, and Simon thought Didi's performance was like a bad musical.

Siobhan Magnus did Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," Randy loved how she "went for it" during her performance, Kara loves Siobhan's big notes, Simon thinks that Siobhan's performance will cause and even split among America.

The American Idol results show is on tonight on Fox with performances from Miley Cyrus, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato. We'll find out who's going home and it better be Paige!! My prediction for the bottom three are Paige (obviously), Tim and Didi.

Lots of great talent has come to country music from American Idol and I think this season has a few contestants with country potential too. Remember when Rascal Flatts trashed Idol saying that artists that came from that show had it too easy? Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley thinks Idol is a viable launching pad for artists. In a YouTube video he says, "Man, talent's talent. I mean, it's so hard to get a break. I think that show honestly is one of the greatest things. I truly do."
