Today I'm thinking that all of the guys did a pretty good job last night on American Idol. But Big Mike brought down the house again singing "This Woman's Work" by Maxwell. It is obvious that he's not just trying to stay in it, but that he wants to win this competition and according to the judges last night he just might. (listen to a clip of the performance below)
During Big Mike's performance Kara had to turn her head away. When they got to her comments we found out that it was because he made her cry! She said, "I've never cried after hearing something like that, it's amazing. You were amazing."
Now that I've gone on about how great Mike was let me tell you about the other guys. All the guys were good as I said to start the blog other than Mike I don't think any of the other guys really did a bad job. I always like it better when there's at least one clear cut bad one like there was with the girls, but hey there's always next week.
Lee Dewyze started the night with a surprising song choice, "Fireflies" by Owl City. Ellen liked it, Kara thought it was a solid performance and Simon thinks Lee will make it into the top 12. I liked it he is such a great singer I know he'll make it into the top 12 and he hasn't had a bad week leading up to this one so I think he's safe.
Alex Lambert looked like he was going to either pee his pants or throw up on stage. He looked terrified and he has admitted that he has a serious case of stage fright. Besides being completely uncomfortable he did a good job with the song, "Trouble" by Ray Lamontagne. Randy thought that he was rushing the song, Ellen loved it she actually called him a "mushy banana" because he's ripening so fast, Kara and Simon both said he needs to relax and get comfortable on stage. Simon went so far as to suggest he imagine Randy in a bikini. He has a great voice I would love to see him move on.
Tim Urban did so well with Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" that Ellen actually ran up onto the stage and hugged him. Kara felt that it was an honest performance and Simon says that it was his best performance. Tim is improving so much every week I'm starting to like him.
Andrew Garcia may be at the end of the line. He made a huge impact when he did Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" and hasn't been able to live up to it so this week he decided to duplicate it by singing Christina Aguilera "Genie in a Bottle" and it wasn't great. It was good, but not as mind blowing as the Paula song. He set the bar too high and is struggling to live up to it and that's a big problem in the competition. Randy and Kara didn't think it worked either. Ellen thought the song choice was great and Simon thought it was desperate. We'll see if he's one of the two guys to say goodbye tonight.
Casey James did Keith Urban's "You'll think of Me" and did it very well. I love it when he just sings and plays the acoustic guitar and so does Kara she said she's "kinda getting back on the Casey train." Randy thought it was too safe, Simon thought it was sincere. He's good to go.
Aaron Kelly, the youngest of the entire group of remaining contestants is sweet, but I just don't care for his voice. I see him as another ballad singer like David Archaleta was and I don't dig that. Randy thought Aaron's vocals were good, Ellen thought it was just OK, Kara thought it was too old a song for him and Simon disagreed with Kara. He may be saying his goodbyes.
Todrick Hall impressed me last night. I have been wishing him out since Hollywood week, but he did "Somebody to Love Me" by Queen and rocked it! Randy thought it was "hot", Kara thought his singing was good, Simon thinks he should be on Broadway. I agree with all of them. I hope he sticks around for the top 12.
If the viewers vote the way I believe they're supposed to, vote for the best singers of this week not taking into account previous performances I think Andrew Garcia and Aaron Kelly may be going home, but this week is very hard.
Tune in for the results show tonight at 7 on Fox and find out if I'm right in my predictions on which two girls and which two guys go home.
