Today I'm thinking of the Joe Nichols show at RJ's Bullshooters Saloon this Saturday night. It's going to be a fun holiday party with all sorts of people in their ugliest Christmas sweaters, fun prizes and a great show!
Joe Nichols has been a busy guy he recently performed for our troops in Iraq and he tells GAC that he wishes more country stars would do the same. He says, "I'm embarrassed that a lot of very successful country music artists that don't need the money right now, haven't even sniffed the possibility of going to Iraq or Afghanistan. Why not? It takes two weeks of your time; it doesn't cost you a dime. What you get out of it is worlds of appreciation and who doesn't want that?"
I think it's great that artists make it a point to designate some time in their busy lives to bring a little home to the troops overseas. Toby Keith is known for doing that, Neal McCoy, and many others have been involved with the USO to show their appreciation for what those men and women are doing for us. Lee Ann Womak says, "The troops have a special place in my heart. Working with the USO to welcome home these brave men and women is a great opportunity for me to show them how much I appreciate their great sacrifce."
It's nice that in country music we can associate ourselves with artists who think beyond themselves and do good things just because they're good for other people.
