Today I'm thinking about Brooks & Dunn. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn tried out solo careers, but didn't really achieve much success until after they teamed up. Ronnie tells USA Today, "Brooks & Dunn caught us by surprise. It took off, and we rode that horse. As fast as we could." and it worked because they stood out from the crowd. Kix explains, "We've never had very good harmonies, honestly. We've always bounced around in our own little worlds on stage. It's been a uniques and different kind of chemistry." Because of those differences breakup rumors first surfaced in the late 90s. It didn't help those rumors that they used separate producers and recorded in different sessions. Looking back at it now Ronnie thinks they should've taken a break to let the dust settle, but they plowed through with even more success.
Now that the duo is officially breaking up Ronnie Dunn plans on working on solo projects, we'll see if it works out for him better this time. And Kix Brooks plans to focus on other ventures as well as songwriting which is his true passion.
What do you think? Will they be back someday?
