County to Open Cooling Centers in Stevens Point
Due to today’s severe heat warning and the city wide power outages, county officials will be opening two cooling centers. One will be open at SPASH Stevens Point Area High School, 1201 N. Point Drive in Stevens Point. Another will be open at the Ben Franklin Junior High School at 2000 Polk Street in Stevens Point. The centers will be open today by noon with projected closure at 8:00 p.m.
The cooling centers will be open for the use of the general public, and individuals with medical conditions and concerns would be encouraged to utilize the centers for health and safety.
Pets will not be permitted in the cooling center. Pets may be left at the Humane Society 3200 Iber Lane in Plover telephone 715-344-6012. Pet owners should bring their crates or carriers if available to the Humane Society.

Fairfield Inn and Suites in Stevens Point, is offering the community members of Stevens Point and surrounding communities a discounted room rate of $50 today due to the damages/power outages from last night and the heat that we are in for today.
