From the 55 SAU News Room: ORLANDO, Fla (WSAU) The Wisconsin football team will try to end a two-game losing streak in bowl games tonight, when it plays Miami at the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. Both teams are 9-and-3.
The 24th-ranked Badgers are trying to get 10 wins for the first time since Bret Bielema’s first season as coach in 2006.
It’s the eighth straight bowl appearance for Wisconsin, which got crushed by Florida State in last year’s Champs Sports Bowl 42-to-13.
Meanwhile, 14th-ranked Miami is looking for its first bowl victory since 2006, and its first season of 10-wins-or-more since 2003. It’s the Hurricanes’ second straight bowl appearance, after falling to California 24-17 in last year’s Emerald Bowl.
Bielema says the Badgers’ performance on special teams might be the difference tonight. He says the kickoff coverage unit especially needs to improve. They’ve given up 26 yards per kickoff return – which Miami has given up just 20 yards per return.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris says his sore throwing hand is okay. He hurt it November 14th against North Carolina – when he threw four interceptions. Harris has 17 picks on the year, and 23 touchdown passes.
