Griffith portrayed small-town Sheriff Andy Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show (1960 - 1968). Deputy Barney Fife was played by Don Knotts. Andy’s son, Opie Taylor was played by Ron Howard.

Griffith also starred in the popular “Matlock” (1986 – 1995). Griffith played Ben Matlock, the defense attorney who had the knack for getting suspects to confess their crimes in the courtroom.

Griffith died this morning at his home in Manteo, NC at the age of 86.
