Jerry Jerome, a 90-year-old WWII veteran from West Bend, is one of two Pearl Harbor veterans still living in the county. For two years, the community has been trying to raise money to send him and his bride back to Pearl Harbor for the 70th anniversary of the attack.When the brat fries and the school fundraisers fell short, organizers reached out to a country music star… Toby Keith.
Toby was in Milwaukee shooting his “Made inAmerica" video when he heard about the Pearl Harbor trip. To help the veteran raise some money, Toby donated an autographed guitar.
It was auctioned off for $3,300, which gave the veteran enough money to take the Pearl Harbor trip.
