Affleck Will Cowl Up To Play Batman

by Doc Murphy

Once Warner Bros. announced that the sequel to this Summer's "Man Of Steel" would feature Batman, a lot of names were being thrown out as possibilities to play the Dark Knight. You can stop the speculation 'cause Ben Affleck is officially on board for the film, scheduled for release July 17th, 2015. Warner Bros. had said they wanted a "mature" actor for the movie.  The film's director, Zack Snyder, said in a press release..."He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."

Ironic point of interest #1
: Affleck's been down the Super Hero road before.  He played Daredevil back in 2003.  That particular adaptation didn't exactly sit well with critics, or audiences, or me.  It was pretty bad.

Ironic point of interest #2: Affleck played George Reeves, TV's Superman, in "Hollywoodland" in 2006.  His co-star in that movie was Diane Lane, who...wait for it...will return in the "Man Of Steel" sequel as Clark Kent's Mom.

Here's my 2 cents..
I don't think Ben Affleck is the right choice, he just doesn't have enough darkness in him to play the Dark Knight.  Let's be honest, he always comes off a little smug, and Batman isn't smug.

Which leads me to the question: Who SHOULD play Batman?  I have 2 front runners.
Josh Brolin - His name was popping up on message boards and I thought "I could see that".  He could easily play the gruff, older version of the caped crusader.
Liev Schreiber - Yes, I know...he was Victor Creed/Sabretooth in Marvel's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" BUT look at the guy.  He's the right age to play an elder Batman (45), he's pretty physically imposing at 6'3".  Most importantly, he's got the right level of gravitas needed for what will be Batman's role in the film. If you don't agree with me, maybe this will help.  Who would win in a fight: Ben or Liev?
