This weekend features big names but for me, no big interest. Let's start with The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. As I've stated in previous posts, I am not a fan of Bullock, so that's strike one. Strike two, I'm a little tired of the McCarthy shtick. I really like her on Mike and Molly and I thought she was hilarious in Bridesmaids, but I think she is over-saturating the market. I unfortunately watched Identity Thief a couple of weeks ago, against my better judgement. I had no interest in seeing it but did so because I do like McCarthy. I didn't laugh once. NOT ONCE! I was annoyed more than anything. I guess I don't have a strike three right now but I'm too lazy to go back and change my approach, so two strikes is it for now. Here's what the critics think.
Next up is White House Down, starring Channing Tatum and Jaime Foxx. Tatum and Foxx have been entertaining on the talk show circuit, especially on Jimmy Kimmel, but interviews don't make a movie. As far as acting goes, Tatum looks great (right ladies?) but isn't a great actor. He's very flat. Foxx, on the other hand, has proven he can be brilliant but I just can't see how this pair works. The critics are not impressed.
Here's the rest of the movies opening this weekend:
