As we draw closer to the Greatest Candy Holiday, Halloween (OK, a quick nod to Christmas which is no slouch in the candy department), we note that even with the thousands of choices on the market to satisfy our sweet tooth, there's always room for more on the shelf.
Witness this week's announcement from Hershey's about the new caramel candy they're rolling out, first new product from the legendary candy maker in 30 years.
Followed by a shot across the bow of Hershey's "Good Ship Lollipop"...the Nestle announcement of the new Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups.
Hershey's, of course, makes the iconic Reese's Peanut Butter Cups having acquired that brand years ago to compliment it's already famous chocolates. And, Nestlé's new brand is simply a peanut butter cup that we know and love but with the Butterfinger candy bar element added with will give it a crunch.
Butterfinger itself is a veteran of the candy counter, introduced some 90 years ago and is available as a regular size candy bar and recently joined many other brands in marketing a bite-size snack edition ands this move just takes it another step further.
So, the competition heats up in the candy industry. Hershey's, I'm sure is unfazed by the latest Nestle move and the new Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cup will no doubt find it's niche in the candy market.
Competition is good for the industry. You might even say it's delicious!
